| Q: | What is the Wellness Wizard? |
| A: | The Wellness Wizard is an electronic caregiver's assistant that reminds users to take their medication and perform other important tasks. It checks on their wellness and alerts their caregivers if assistance may be needed. |
| Q: | What exactly does the user need to do when they hear a reminder message? |
| A: | When the user's Wellness Wizard plays a reminder message, the yellow button on the front of the Wellness Wizard blinks. To acknowledge that the user has heard the message, they must press the blinking button. If they do not press the button, the message will continue to play and the yellow button will continue to blink for 20 minutes. If the user still does not press the button, the Wellness Wizard will call the first of up to 6 designated phone numbers with an automated alert call telling caregivers to check on their Loved One. |
| Q: | What does the automated alert call say? |
| A: | The alert call will state: "This is a Wellness Wizard alert call. The user of the Wellness Wizard (user's name) has not acknowledged their reminder message played at (time and date). Please check on their wellness. To acknowledge that you have heard this call, please press the * key.To place the Wellness Wizard in the Message Off Mode, press 5 followed by the # key." |
| Q: | What if the caregiver does not answer their telephone, or their answering machine answers the alert call? |
| A: |
|
| Q: | What happens if no one answers the phone at any of the 6 designated alert phone numbers? |
| A: | See #2 and #3 in the previous question. |
| Q: | Can the Wellness Wizard call any telephone number? |
| A: | While the Wellness Wizard can be programmed from any telephone, it cannot call phone numbers that require dialing an extension. For example it will not be able to reach 555-5555 ext 100.This is a little bit too sophisticated for the Wellness Wizard. |
| Q: | Can the WW remind family members to call the user? |
| A: | If there is someone who should be calling the user, but needs a reminder, you can program the Wellness Wizard to call this family member daily, weekly, on a specific day of the month, or on any specified day in the future (such as your Loved One's birthday). |
| Q: | How is the Wellness Wizard installed? |
| A: | Installation is easy. Connect the telephone line from the user's wall jack to the green telephone port in back of the Wellness Wizard.
|
| Q: | How do I know if the Wellness Wizard is installed properly? |
| A: | You will know that you have correctly installed the Wellness Wizard because the bottom light will glow, indicating that you have electric power, and if you lift the handset of the telephone that is connected to the Wellness Wizard you will hear a dial tone. Note:If you do not hear the dial tone when you lift the handset of the telephone connected to the Wellness Wizard, you have almost certainly connected the telephone wires incorrectly. Check to see that the bottom light (red diode) just above the lid is glowing.Connect the telephone line from the user's wall jack to the green telephone port in back of the Wellness Wizard, and plug the telephone line from the user's telephone into the yellow port. |
| Q: | Can the Wellness Wizard be hooked up to cell phone since my Loved One does not have a landline phone? |
| A: | No, just like an answering machine, the Wellness Wizard cannot be hooked up to a cell phone. It is preferable to hook the Wellness Wizard up to a landline phone, but the Wellness Wizard will also work with an Internet phone. |
| Q: | How far away from the telephone can the Wellness Wizard be placed? My Loved One's phone is in the kitchen but they sit in the living room for most of the day. |
| A: | The Wellness Wizard needs to be connected to a telephone wall jack, and a telephone has to be plugged into the Wellness Wizard's yellow port.If the only telephone is in the kitchen, then this is the only place that the Wellness Wizard can be installed, unless the telephone company is contacted and an additional phone jack is added in the room that you desire to install the Wellness Wizard.Note there also needs to be an electrical outlet nearby to provide electricity for the Wellness Wizard. |
| Q: | My Loved One has a rotary phone. Will the Wellness Wizard work? |
| A: | Yes, however you need a touch-tone phone to setup and program message onto the Wellness Wizard. You can program the Wellness Wizard remotely by calling your loved-one's phone or if your loved-one has touch-tone service, but a rotary telephone, you can temporarily borrow a touch-tone telephone and connect it to the yellow port to program the Wellness Wizard. Note that you need to have the telephone connected to the Wellness Wizard to allow the device to make alert calls. |
| Q: | If my parent has a Medical Alarm System also known as a personal emergency response system (PERS) attached to their phone line already, can the Wellness Wizard also be connected? |
| A: | Yes, but it is important to follow the proper connection procedure:
|
| Q: | During set up, when the Wellness Wizard asks me to enter the user's name and telephone number, do I enter my name and telephone number or do I enter my Loved One's name and telephone number? |
| A: | Enter the name of the person (your Loved One) who will be using the Wellness Wizard. The reason for this is that when the Wellness Wizard makes an alert call, the message will say:"The user of the Wellness Wizard (user's name)*... |
| Q: | How are messages recorded? |
| A: | Before you can record messages you must enter setup information. Recording setup information an recording messages is easy and can be performed in two ways:
|
| Q: | How do I connect the Wellness Wizard if my Loved One lives far away from me? |
| A: | See #2 in the question above (Q: How are messages recorded?). |
| Q: | I live far away, how can I change a message without physically making another trip to my Loved One's home? |
| A: | See #2 in the question above (Q: How are messages recorded?). |
| Q: | Can I record a message from a cell phone? |
| A: | Yes, you can. See answer to previous question (Q: How are messages recorded?). |
| Q: | Will the user only receive one message per day (per 24 hour period)? |
| A: | The Wellness Wizard can be programmed to play up to 20 different messages a day.But each message must be 1 hour apart. If you try to record a message that is less than 1 hour apart, the Wellness Wizard will inform you that, "messages must be one hour apart."Please note that if you record a message to play every day of the week, this is just one message even though it will play every day. |
| Q: | What happens if my Loved One presses the 911 Emergency button by accident? |
| A: | If the user presses any call button without first lifting the receiver on the handset of the telephone connected to the Wellness Wizard, nothing will happen.Your Loved One does not have to worry about pressing the 911 Emergency button by mistake. To use any speed dial call button, the user must first lift the handset and then press the desired speed dial button. If your Loved One uses the Emergency button to call 911, the Wellness Wizard will wait 15 minutes and then call the designated caregiver alert numbers with an automated message informing the caregiver(s) that the user has called 911. The reason for the 15-minute delay is to leave the phone line open just in case the Emergency Medical personnel want or need to speak to your Loved One. |
| Q: | If my Loved One presses the Doctor, Pharmacy, Caregiver, or 911 Emergency speed dial button, does the WW automatically dial out? |
| A: | Yes, as long as your Loved One lifts the handset first, but there are no alert calls to caregiver(s) made if the buttons other than 911 are used. |
| Q: | What happens if the user will be away from home for an extended period of time? |
| A: | The Wellness Wizard has a message Off/On switch. It is the blue button under the lid (labeled Message Off/On). When the Wellness Wizard is in the message ON position the light (red diode) just above the lid glows red. If the user wants to put the Wellness Wizard into the message OFF mode they simply press the blue button. The red diode just above the lid will flash, and continue to flash until the user presses the blue button a second time to put the Wellness Wizard back into the ON mode. When the user places the Wellness Wizard in the Message Off mode no reminder messages will play until they put the Wellness Wizard back into the Message On mode. When the user puts the Wellness Wizard into the OFF mode an alert message is telephoned to the designated caregivers indicating that the user has taken this action. The alert message also reminds the caregivers to make sure that at the appropriate time, the user puts the Wellness Wizard back into the Message On mode. When the user put the Wellness Wizard back in the Message On mode,( by again pressing the blue Message Off/On button),the red diode stops blinking and returns to glowing, and an automated call is made to inform the caregiver(s) that the Wellness Wizard is back in the ON Mode. |
| Q: | What happens if my Loved One plans to go away on a day when I have the Wellness Wizard programmed to play a message? |
| A: | See answer to previous question. The user should be instructed to put the Wellness Wizard into the Off mode until they return. |
| Q: | Does the Wellness Wizard still work if the electric power goes out? |
| A: | If there is a power failure, the Wellness Wizard will not be able to play reminder messages or send ongoing messages. When the power is restored, the Wellness Wizard returns to normal operation. If the 9-volt backup battery is installed into the battery compartment on the bottom of the Wellness Wizard, when there is a power failure that lasts more than 2 minutes, the Wellness Wizard will place an automated alert call to inform caregiver(s) that the user does not have electric power. |
| Q: | Does the time feature update automatically when it is Daylight Saving Time? |
| A: | Yes. |

| Q: | How long can I expect the coin cell battery to last? |
| A: | The coin cell battery powers the internal clock when the Wellness Wizard is not plugged in or the user is without electricity.Coin cell life will vary depending on how long and how often the user's Wellness Wizard is without power (how often it has to work powering the internal clock). It should last several years |
| Q: | Where can I buy a replacement coin cell battery? |
| A: | The best place is any electronics store. The battery number is 2450. Note that when you replace the coin cell battery you will have to reset the Wellness Wizard's time. |
| Q: | Does anything alert me if the 9-volt backup battery, coin cell, or telephone line needs attention? |
| A: | The Wellness Wizard will actually tell your Loved One if the following items need to be checked or replaced:
|
| Q: | Does the Wellness Wizard work if the phone line is dead? |
| A: | No, however, phone service that is supplied by a conventional "land line" is powered independent of the user's home electricity and will still function if there is no electricity in the user's home. Note:Internet-based telephones and cordless telephones are powered by the user's home electricity and there is no backup power source, so these phones will be "dead" until electricity is restored. If there is a power failure, the Wellness Wizard will not even be able to make a no power alert call because the phone line is "dead " until the electricity is restored. |
